"Advanced NMR Spectroscopy" May - June 2009 Utrecht/Nijmegen

Advanced NMR Course

"Advanced NMR Spectroscopy"

The Bijvoet-IMM Research Alliance (BNRA) organizes from May 25 to June 5, and a third week June 22 to 26, 2009, a course on advanced NMR spectroscopy. The course covers the theoretical aspects of current biomolecular high-resolution NMR spectroscopy and is intended for Ph.D. students and advanced undergraduate students who already have a thorough knowledge of NMR spectroscopy.

The course is organized by the NMR group at the Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM) at the Radboud University Nijmegen and the NMR research group of the Bijvoet Center for Biomolecular Research at Utrecht University. The course will take three weeks in total and will be given partially in Utrecht and partially in Nijmegen.

Course contents:

The course consists of lectures and practical sessions. Topics will be Product Operator Formalism and important tools/ building blocks of NMR experiments, e.g. INEPT, HSQC/HMQC, Decoupling, Selective pulses, Phase Coherence Selection, Gradients, TOCSY and TROSY. The following applications will be addressed: solid state NMR, heteronuclear 3D/4D NMR, triple resonance NMR, NMR relaxation theory and applications on protein dynamics.
The acquired knowledge will be directly applied in the practical sessions.

Lecturers:

  • Prof. dr. M. Baldus, Utrecht University
  • Prof. dr. R. Boelens, Utrecht University
  • Dr. K. Houben, Utrecht University
  • Dr. A. Brinkman, Radboud University Nijmegen
  • Dr. H. Heus, Radboud University Nijmegen
  • Dr. F.A.A. Mulder, University of Groningen
  • Dr. R.M. Scheek, University of Groningen
  • Dr. M. Tessari, Radboud University Nijmegen
  • Dr. G. Vuister, Radboud University Nijmegen
  • Prof. dr. S. Wijmenga, Radboud University Nijmegen
  • Dr. M. Ubbink, Leiden University
  • Dr. M. Zweckstetter, MPI Göttingen

Language: English

Prerequisite knowledge:

The course is intended for Ph.D. students and advanced undergraduate students (primarily of the participating institutes) who already have a thorough knowledge of NMR spectroscopy.

Registration:

Please send an email to the NMR secretariat (Barbara Hendricx: secr@nmr.chem.uu.nl) and indicate your NMR background. Attach a short CV in your email. International applicants should provide a short recommendation letter by their supervisor.

Participation is free for members of the groups of the Bijvoet-IMM Research Alliance. The registration fee for participants from other universities amounts to Euro 350.- and for others to Euro 1000.-. Participants should cover their own travel and lodging expenses. Deadline for subscription is Tuesday April 28. Applicants will receive an acceptance notice in the first week of May, with information for booking accommodation.

Data of previous workshops and courses

From data to structure (every even year)

Advanced NMR course (every odd year)

The NMR research group co-organizes an EMBO NMR course on multidimensional NMR in structural biology. This course is co-sponsored by the European Initiative for Training in NMR and should take place every second years. The course covers NMR theory and methodology for the study of the structure and dynamics of biomolecules in solution. It consists of lectures, practical sessions, poster sessions and round table discussions. Click here for more information.
