Research Interest:

Transcription regulation, how do transcription activators exert their effect on the basal transcription machinery
Protein expression systems, find optimal expression systems for production of recombinant proteins or protein domains suitable for structure determination
HTP methods for recombinant protein production
Structure determination using established NMR methods for structure determination. Main focus is on human protein domains for which no structural information is available
Structural biology, the use molecular biological and biochemical methods in order to learn from the three dimensional structure more about the function of the geneproduct

Short CV

I did my PhD in the group of Paul van der Saag at the Netherlands Institute for developmental biology in Utrecht. In this group I worked from 1991 until 1998 on the transcription regulation by retinoid receptors. For detailed information I refer to my thesis From februari 1998 I started as a postdoc in the group of prof. Rob Kaptein, to setup a laboratory for the expression and purification of proteins and to biochemically characterize proteins for which the structure has been established. In Februari 2005 my position was tenured and from January 2006 I´m appointed as associate professor in the NMR spectroscopy section of the Life Science Faculty of the Utrecht University.
